Dolph Ziggler, who has not been seen on WWE television since the Royal Rumble in late January, has given an update on his current contract status with the company.
Ziggler told 98.5 Wrestling Inside The Ropes that although he is “technically” still under contract to WWE, he is working on a handshake agreement that allows him to partake in (non-wrestling) activities outside of the promotion.
“It’s weird because for the last two years I’ve had somewhat of a handshake agreement, kind of behind closed doors deal with WWE. I’ve been able to do a lot of things, on my own, not at WWE, just because of the relationship we’ve had for the last 14 years. I have a bit of a handshake agreement right now, but we’ll know some more details in the coming months.”
Ziggler’s WWE status has come into question several times in recent years. Recently he reportedly turned down an offer to step away from the ring to become a road agent.
With the former World Heavyweight Champion approaching his 40s and with seemingly little left for him to do in the company, his future remains unclear.
As it stands, although there are no plans for Ziggler at WrestleMania and beyond it seems unlikely that WWE would want yet another of its long-running stars to depart. The chances are that Ziggler will end up putting pen to paper on another deal with WWE in, as he stated, the coming months.
Do you think Ziggler will stay with WWE or will he leave the promotion to explore new opportunities?
