In the Spring of 2011, Dolph Ziggler was given some very poor advice. The cocky young heel had enjoyed a lengthy run as Intercontinental Champion but was told to cut and dye his hair.
What resulted was a universally panned look. Ziggler with short brown hair caused him to look incredibly generic, virtually blending in with the like of Evan Bourne and The Miz at the time. Now, Ziggler has revealed what WWE management told him at the time.
The cut wasn’t random, the fact that being told short hair would make me more credible, instead of occasionally winning matches, was the weird part

“The cut wasn’t random, the fact that being told short hair would make me more credible, instead of occasionally winning matches, was the weird part.”
Right you are, Dolph, that is weird. Considering how WWE had just gone through an era where Shawn Michaels, Edge, Jeff Hardy, Triple H, and others had lengthy runs on top with long hair, I fail to see how a haircut would make Ziggler more credible. This does serve as another example of WWE valuing aesthetics over wins and losses, however.
The look did not last, as he had dyed his hair blond once again just one month later. Hooray.
