Dominik Mysterio says joining The Judgment Day was the moment that changed how he viewed himself in his WWE career, leading to more opportunities and “trust” backstage.
After beginning his WWE career as a babyface in a tag team along with his father Rey Mysterio, Dominik Mysterio’s career would kick into a entirely new gear after turning on his father at Clash at the Castle in September 2022.
Joining The Judgment Day after low blowing Edge and attacking his father, “Dirty Dom” was born, with the 28-year-old proceeding to evolve as a performer alongside his stablemates.
Speaking with Towers of Power Pro Wrestling Podcast, Mysterio said joining Judgment Day and working withs Rhea Ripley, Damian Priest, Finn Balor and later JD McDonagh, helped him grow in confidence as a performer, which in turn led to him receiving the “trust” of WWE to work with some of the company’s biggest names such as CM Punk and Randy Orton.
Mysterio said:
“I think when I started getting comfortable with The Judgment Day with Damian, Finn and Rhea at the beginning. And then JD coming in, I think just all of those guys helping me just get comfortable. We were getting along backstage so we were getting along in-ring, we were getting along off camera, so on camera our chemistry was just, it clicked, it was working.
“That’s what really helped me out and made me realise that I could hang with the big dogs once I started to get comfortable. They’re talking me up as much as they can, and that’s getting into my head, so that’s adding to my character and then the people they started to give me the trust to work with.
“CM Punk was coming back, I was Punk’s first match back. Randy coming back from injury, I was Randy’s first match back. So stuff like that that I started noticing that they really started to put the trust in me. And also too, when I was working NXT, I was doing Raw and I was doing SmackDown, and I was doing all the live events as well.
“So I think that really helped me and solidified me and gave me the confidence of ‘yeah I’m in this and I’m doing it.’”
