WWE Intercontinental Champion Dominik Mysterio has addressed a potential babyface turn after the reaction he received at WrestleMania 41.
Mysterio’s championship win got a massive positive reaction from the crowd as he seems to have become the latest name to have done such a good job as a heel that the crowd is now turning him babyface.
Mysterio hasn’t really done anything to establish a ‘turn’, as evidenced on Monday’s WWE Raw when a returning JD McDonagh helped him retain the Intercontinental Title against Penta.
However, it might be unavoidable if the positive reactions continue, and Mysterio has commented on a potential shift going forward.
Speaking to CBS Sports, he said:
“Whatever the company wants, I’m here for them. I’m a team player and they know that. At the end of the day, whatever is best for business is going to happen.”
On winning the Intercontinental Championship, he said:
“It’s super validating. The fact that it’s my first Mania competing for a singles title.
“It’s also my first Mania without my deadbeat dad anywhere around me. It’s definitely an accomplishment for me.”
It appears there are still issues playing out between Mysterio and Judgment Day teammate Finn Balor, and if the crowd reactions continue as they have been, it may be Mysterio that comes out of it as the babyface and Balor as the heel – not the other way around.
