While their feud on WWE television has been relatively short, according to a new interview with Doudrop, their face-off at this month’s Royal Rumble premium live event on January 29 is over a decade in the making.
Speaking to Alex McCarthy of talkSPORT, Doudrop reflected on her time as a young wrestler on the UK scene, saying:
“I don’t know if people know this, but I’ve been waiting 15 years for this match. Way back when I first started training in a little warehouse in Linwood, Scotland, there really wasn’t many experienced girls in the UK wrestling scene at all.
“We were very aware of Becky at the time. Even back then she was at the top of her game. She was the girl our trainers were trying to get in and have matches with us so we could learn from her, get some kind of experience.
“But, sadly, unbeknownst to us at the time, she was just packing up things there to move over to the U.S. We made efforts to get her over but it just didn’t work out.
“So 15 long years later, here we are. It’s one big ass circle to go in, but we got there [laughs].”
Doudrop is scheduled to take on Becky Lynch for the WWE Raw Women’s Championship after having bested Bianca Belair for the opportunity to take on ‘Big Time Becks’ for the title at the January 29 Royal Rumble.
Previously known as Viper in Japan and on the independent wrestling circuit, Doudrop made her debut for WWE in 2017 Mae Young Classic where she competed as Piper Niven before spending several years in NXT UK, finally debuting on the main roster for Raw in June 2021.
