This Former WWE Star Credited For Booking NXT Talent On WWE Main Event WWE

WWE’s Corey Graves and Kevin Patrick has credited former 24/7 Champion Drake Maverick as the ‘mastermind’ behind WWE Main Event.

On WWE After The Bell, the duo pointed out that WWE Main Event has been used as another developmental brand recently, with NXT stars making appearances on the show.

Graves and Patrick noted:

Graves: “Lately, we’ve been getting a lot of NXT superstars coming up for a week or two to get their feet wet, sort of acclimate themselves to what it means to be on Raw or Smackdown versus NXT, which is a different world.

“I have to give credit to the WWE superstars who have been competing against these young guns, these up-and-comers, who have been holding the ship together.

“Guys like Cedric Alexander in particular, Cedric deserves his flowers. This is a dude who has been tag team champion, cruiserweight champion, he’s the real deal.

“You realize what an opportunity it is and you maximize it and capitalize on it, that’s what Cedric has done. He’s putting on bangers with the likes of Joe Gacy…”

Patrick: “Grayson Waller, JD McDonagh. There’s been a host of NXT superstars that have come down, and Byron Saxton and I have the privilege of calling it and I absolutely love it because you see Zoey Stark and Alba Fyre and Fallon Henley, they crave this opportunity in front of the WWE universe and whatever venue we’re at.

“All of a sudden, you have a star maker. Shelton Benjamin is perfect example, who has really been turning it on as of late. He’s been absolutely outstanding. Tamina, another wonderful example.

“Dana Brooke, Akira Tozawa, each and every week they’ve been working so hard with the NXT superstars that come down and they are putting on one hell of a match. Cedric, Shelton, Tamina, Dana, they deserve this praise.”

Noting that Drake Maverick has played a key role in the transformation of WWE Main Event, the duo said:

Patrick: “Behind the scenes, there are many more people to it than just the superstars, and that’s why I have to give a shoutout to James Curtin aka Maverick, Spud, he has been the mastermind behind Main Event over the last few weeks and we’ve seen much more creativity on the show. He’s played a huge role there.”

Graves: “Drake Maverick, for those keeping track at home, he’s doing what he can with what he’s provided and making something special that you do not want to miss.”

After he was released from his talent contract in November, Maverick returned to the company in February, joining the creative team.

Triple H currently oversees WWE creative as the company’s Chief Content Officer.

He was elevated into this role in July following Vince McMahon’s departure.
