After winning the Royal Rumble at the beginning of the year, Drew McIntyre went on to defeat Brock Lesnar in the WrestleMania 36 main event to capture the WWE Championship.
Obviously, due to the Coronavirus, Drew wasn’t able to get the crowning moment in front of the fans that WWE wanted to give him, but he has still be doing some great work as a babyface champion since winning the title.
Since his big win, McIntyre has defeated the likes of Big Show, Bobby Lashley and Seth Rollins. He will be hoping to add Dolph Ziggler to that list by the time Extreme Rules is in the books
WrestleTalk exclusively reported that, as of right now, Drew McIntyre will likely defend his WWE Championship at SummerSlam against Randy Orton, and Drew has commented on this potential match-up.
Drew revealed in an interview with talkSPORT that he’d be open to facing the multi-time WWE Champion if the opportunity arose. Drew also revealed a potential storyline for the pair:
“I’m excited at the prospect of me and Randy if it comes together. I hope it happens, the internet seems to know about it before I do [laughs]. The story writes itself; we were kids who were given such great opportunities. Randy has all the natural talent in the world, but he was very protected.”
A report emerged yesterday suggesting that an idea was pitched to have Randy Orton take the WWE Champion off of Drew McIntyre, with Orton then feuding with a WWE Hall of Famer. You can read more about that story by clicking here.
