Drew McIntyre On What Changed Between His Two WWE Runs

Drew McIntyre has been a dominant force in WWE since his return to the company in 2017. He captured the NXT Championship and was almost immediately called up to the main roster following an injury. After rejoining the red brand, McIntyre has had a hell of a run, spending the majority of 2018 without a loss to his name and capturing the WWE Raw Tag Team Championships alongside Dolph Ziggler in the process.

This is a far cry from his initial run with the company which saw him go from Vince McMahon’s ‘Chosen One’ to a member of 3MB with fellow jobbers Heath Slater and Jinder Mahal (before Mahal became a human tank and won the WWE Championship) – no that was not a fever dream.

Recently, the ‘Scottish Psychopath’ sat down for a media conference to discuss his time away from WWE. He details why he left, why he wanted to go through NXT upon his return and what has changed in between the two runs other than his real name (Drew Galloway) becoming what he is known by to all of us smarks.

Why McIntyre needed to become Galloway again:

“It would have been very hard to grow if I hadn’t stepped outside the WWE bubble and gain a clear perspective on everything. I was already comfortable talking but that wasn’t my strong suit. I think I would have done okay but I don’t think I would be where I’m at. I certainly wouldn’t be as comfortable as I am now to get more opportunities.”

Why he chose to go through NXT:

“I had a lot of conversations with Triple H and I made it clear if I come back, I would like to go to NXT…You need those experienced leaders because that makes a difference in the product. NXT had lost a couple of people and I felt I could really make a difference going in there.”

What changed between his two WWE stints:

“What’s changed from my first stint is that I don’t take anything for granted. I’m a lot more mature and I don’t have negativity in my life. Partying isn’t as important to me anymore like it was when I was younger. I focus very much on the job and my goals and dreams…They say opportunity is everything you’ve got. I didn’t realize that the first time around because I had lost perspective.”
