Drew McIntyre has revealed why he attacked Randy Orton during the main event of the February 20 episode of WWE SmackDown.
After weeks of Aleister Black attempting to get in the head of Randy Orton, the two faced off one-on-one in the main event of Friday’s episode of WWE SmackDown in Sunrise, Florida.
In the match’s closing stages, just when Randy Orton appeared to have victory in his sight, Undisputed WWE Champion Drew McIntyre appeared at ringside and struck “The Viper” with his title belt, which then opened the door for Black to his Black Mass for the win.
While McIntyre and Orton have their fair share of history, particularly over the WWE Championship, the attack was somewhat unexpected given how preoccupied “The Scottish Warrior” has been on Cody Rhodes and Jacob Fatu in recent weeks.
When actor, podcast host and wrestling fan O’Shea Jackson Jr. took to Twitter to question McIntyre’s reasoning for targeting Orton, the WWE Champion responded with a short clip (see below) of Jay Cartwright (James Buckley) from UK comedy show The Imbetweeners being asked “Why did you do that?” by Simon Cooper (Joe Thomas), to which Jay shrugs his shoulders and responds:
“Funny”
Orton will compete in the Men’s Elimination Chamber Match on February 28 in Chicago, with Cody Rhodes, LA Knight, Je’Von Evans and Trick Williams joining him.
The final qualifying match will be held on the February 23 episode of WWE Raw, with “The Original” El Grande Americano, Jey Uso and Bronson Reed facing off in a three-way.
