Drew McIntyre and Triple H have responded to Cody Rhodes’ controversial Undisputed WWE Championship defense at Saturday Night’s Main Event.
In what was the opening contest of the show in Salt Lake City, the “American Nightmare” and “Scottish Warrior” had their third one-on-on contest for the WWE Championship, this time with the added stipulation that if Cody Rhodes was to get disqualified or counted out he would lose his title.
While this added ingredient to the match seemed to ensure that Rhodes would have to win clean, that was not the case, as Cody drove the Scotsman’s head into the WWE Title with a DDT whilst referee Dan Engler was down, which then allowed for the champion to retain via a Cross Rhodes.
While it was McIntyre who initially introduced the title into the ring, he clearly felt he had been screwed over once again by a WWE official based on his reaction to the result on social media afterwards.
Taking to Twitter, McIntyre shared the famous clip of Cody Rhodes recounting former tag team partner Ted DiBiase Jr. stating that a WWE referee was trying to “f**k on him”.
Someone who shared a different perspective on the win was WWE Chief Content Officer Triple H, who applauded Cody for his ability to “find a way to win”.
Posting on Twitter, Triple H wrote:
A true champion always finds a way to win. Congrats @CodyRhodes!
