Drew McIntyre Written Off WWE TV At WWE Day 1

At last night’s WWE Day 1 pay-per-view (Premium Live Event), Drew McIntyre defeated Madcap Moss in a match that seemed to go longer than most had expected it to.

Later in the night, McIntyre was jumped by Madcap and Happy Corbin in the back, with Corbin assaulting McIntyre’s neck with a steel chair and scaffold backstage.

WWE posted a tweet after the show, where they diagnosed McIntyre with a ‘cervical neck strain with severe contusions.’

Per PWInsider, McIntyre’s injury is not a storyline. McIntyre has reportedly been working through a neck injury for the past few weeks, and tonight’s angle was shot to write him off television until he can get it checked out.

There is no word on how long McIntyre will be out of action, but the hope within the company is that it will be a short-term absence.

PWInsider notes that there were several people over the course of last night who noted how hard McIntyre has been going in recent weeks despite his neck issues, including him working multiple times a night over the recent live event tour, with him wrestling tag team matches against the Usos, as well as working Street Fights against Sheamus. One person noted that McIntyre ‘went down swinging’ to injury for the company.

McIntyre was reportedly wearing a neck brace when he left last night’s show.

McIntyre wrestled the most WWE matches for the year 2021.
