Dustin Rhodes Says Goodbye To Goldust Character After Confirming WWE Exit

Yesterday it was revealed that Dustin Rhodes would be facing his brother Cody at AEW’s first official show, Double or Nothing on May, 25. WrestleTalk reported several weeks ago that Dustin Rhodes, who went by the name of Goldust in WWE, had left the company. However, he would quickly deny those claims.

However, after yesterday’s announcement, Dustin took to his Twitter to release a full statement and confirm that he had requested his release from WWE, which had obviously been granted. He thanked the WWE fans and urged them to “never forget the name of….. #Goldust”.

Speaking of Goldust, Dustin would also share an emotional video to his Twitter account this evening of him placing a Goldust mask into a chest and turning to the camera before saying “goodbye”.

This would confirm that Goldust will be using the name ‘Dustin Rhodes’ in the future on the independent scene, and ditching his bizarre gimmick. Dustin was seen using red and black face paint in the initial announcement video last night, so this all but confirms a change in look for Rhodes.

This comes after Dustin teased that although his match with Cody was being billed as his “one last ride”, he might be sticking around and signing a full-time contract with All Elite Wrestling in the near future.
