Last night’s episode of WWE NXT on the USA Network saw progress in both the men’s and women’s editions of the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic.
On the men’s side, Kushida and Leon Ruff advanced to the quarter-finals by picking up a win over Johnny Gargano and Austin Theory of the Way.
Kushida and Ruff will now take on the Grizzled Young Veterans in the quarters, who beat Ever-Rise last week.
In the other men’s tournament match last night, Lucha House Party picked up a win over Fabian Aichner and Marcel Barthel of Imperium.
Gran Metalik and Lince Dorado will now face Joaquin Wilde and Raul Mendoza of Legado Del Fantasma in their quarter-final. Wilde and Mendoza had beaten the Bollywood Boyz on 205 Live last week to advance.
There’s also a note regarding Ashante “Thee” Adonis, who has been pulled out of the tournament, with the explanation being he was injured in his squash match loss to Karrion Kross.
Adonis was set to team with Desmond Troy against Tony Nese and Ariya Daivari in the tournament on 205 Live this Friday, so Troy will have a new partner.
On the women’s side of things, which is a round shorter due to only having eight teams instead of 16, Kacy Catanzaro and Kayden Carter beat Mercedes Martinez and Toni Storm to advance to the semi-finals.
Catanzaro and Carter will face the winner of Aliyah and Jessi Kamea vs Dakota Kai and Raquel Gonzalez in the semis. We’ll continue to provide Dusty Rhodes Classic updates as the tournament progresses.
