Eddie Kingston Reveals Process For Structuring Promos

AEW star Eddie Kingston has noted that he probably would’ve been fired by WWE due to how he structures promos and matches.

Kingston is one of the most compelling talkers in AEW today. He has revealed that as long as he is in the zone, he doesn’t often think about structure when planning matches or promos.

During a Q&A session for AdFreeShows, Kingston stated that with matches, he just likes to fight and see how people react. On the topic of promos, Kingston noted that he’d just need to know the opponent, date, time and reason for the conflict, and he’d be able to talk.

Debating whether or not he’d last in WWE, Kingston said:

“I don’t go into wrestling matches thinking about structure. I’m in my zone and I think about what I’d do to this person for real. Structure and stuff just comes with it. Structuring promos, I just need to know the person, the day, the time, and why. Sometimes, I start repeating myself so maybe sometimes I should structure it. Matches, I just go in there and fight and see how people react. Everyone talks about calling stuff. That’s not me.

(When asked if he could thrive in a scripted WWE environment) “I wouldn’t like it, but I’d do my job. I love this, it’s my passion, but it’s also my job. Whoever I’m working for, if they tell me ‘we need you to say whatever,’ I do it. I wouldn’t be happy, but I’d do it. I’d probably get in trouble and fired real quick because I’d slide in certain things about myself. My mother knew that and that’s why she said sign with AEW.”

Kingston quickly gained popularity during the build towards his AEW World Championship match with Jon Moxley at Full Gear 2020. At Double or Nothing, Kingston and Moxley challenge for The Young Bucks’ AEW Tag Team Championship.

At AEW Revolution, Kingston shielded Moxley during the big explosion… but the pyro unfortunately failed. Eddie Kingston has revealed how he reacted backstage following the botch.
