It had been reported previously that the injury actually happened during re-takes after the entire match had already been completed, but Edge has now given his account.
Speaking on Booker T’s Hall of Fame podcast, he said:
“I did a springboard into the second RKO, I went ‘ooh,’ I got the cold sweats and I feel like I’m going to throw up. That’s usually a sign, that’s where it popped. I thought, okay, I think I have a little bit more in the tank to finish this out. We got it finished.”
He also mentioned that he and his doctor were aware it was an issue that was lingering before the match was even taped, and in fact his doctor thought it was already partially torn.
Luckily, as noted above, most of the match had already been done before the injury was suffered, so it’s not like he had to work hurt for ages to get the match finished.
The current belief is Edge will be out for between four-eight months while he recovers.
