This weekend on the kickoff show for WWE SummerSlam, Edge delivered a spear to Smackdown star Elias.
What is significant is the fact that this was the first bump/wrestling move that Edge has delivered since his retirement from the ring in 2011.
Edge’s returned sparked rumours that the former WWE and World Heavyweight Champion could be returning to the ring. However, these have since been put to bed.
Speaking to Christian on the E&C Pod of Awesomeness, The Rated-R Superstar revealed that he only found out about the SummerSlam spot about 15 minutes before he was in front of the live crowd:
“First of all, the reason I had a sh*t eating grin was literally about five minutes before I saw you I found out or was asked, ‘What do you think? Wanna do a promo?’ So it was probably fifteen minutes before you saw me go out there so year, it was all that last minute. Like, I think poor Elias had to go write a song in fifteen minutes. So it tells you how much of a pro he is.”
Vince McMahon reportedly needed to be convinced by many backstage within WWE to allow Edge, who has a history of bad neck-related injuries, to deliver the move.
