Edge Wanted Rated RKO Reunion Following WWE Return

Edge Wanted Rated RKO Reunion Following WWE Return

At the 2020 Royal Rumble, Edge made a shocking return to in-ring competition almost nine years after being forced to retire following a series of neck injuries.

The following night on Raw, Edge cut an emotional promo in which he namedropped guys like Kevin Owens, AJ Styles and Matt Riddle as people he’d like to work with.

However, in the five months since returning, Edge has only worked with Randy Orton, and the two former WWE Champions will collide once again, this time at Backlash in what WWE is bafflingly labelling “the greatest wrestling match ever”.

While the duo have been on opposite sides of the ring since Edge’s return, the Rated-R Superstar revealed on Raw Talk that he actually wanted to reform Rated RKO with Randy Orton following his return earlier this year:

“I would’ve loved to have seen Rated RKO take another ride together, and obviously the audience that night… you heard it, they wanted it too, and I was more than willing to travel that road and when he said it, I actually looked forward to it and maybe it was because part of me was doubting, ‘Can I do this on my own? Right now until I get my feet, until I get my ring awareness back, until I kind of get that bump callous back, maybe doing it in a tag team with Randy Orton is the best way of doing that?’ And then, wham!”

When WWE started billing Edge vs. Orton as the “greatest wrestling match ever”, some fans speculated that this was a work that would see a “finger poke of doom” spot where Edge laid down for Orton at the beginning of their match, reforming a heel Rated RKO.

However, reports have indicated that Edge and Orton had another long match (30-35 minutes), and were told to go out and attempt to genuinely have the “greatest wrestling match” of all time.
