Eric Bischoff Reveals Why His Run As SmackDown Director Didn’t Work

Eric Bischoff and Paul Heyman were brought onto SmackDown and Raw respectively in 2019. While Heyman lasted until the Spring of 2020, Bischoff’s tenure was much shorter.

Their roles were to be the Executive Directors of their respective shows. Within a few months, Bischoff was gone from SmackDown. Now, he has opened up about why he felt his side things didn’t work. Here is the quote from Bischoff’s interview with Stephanie Chase of Digital Spy:

“There was not nearly the autonomy that I was hoping there would be. There wasn’t an open mind to new ways of doing things which, either I allowed myself to believe there would be or I was led to believe there would be, I’m not sure which is true even to this day.

I would say it was probably me allowing myself to believe something that wasn’t true more than being misled, I’ll take responsibility for that. But I think there was there was a little bit of that.”

Since his departure, Eric Bischoff has appeared on AEW Dynamite a few times. The first was to be the moderator for Chris Jericho’s debate with Orange Cassidy. Bischoff later returned to ask a question for MJF and Jericho’s Town Hall meeting.
