Erick Redbeard has revealed that the reason why Vince McMahon asked him to cut his beard in 2019.
In a new interview with Wrestle Buddy Podcast, the former WWE star recalled his partnership with Bryan Danielson in WWE back in 2019.
When speaking about a conversation with McMahon ahead of getting involved in Bryan’s match against AJ Styles at Royal Rumble, Redbeard said:
I had to talk Vince [McMahon] out of — the day of the [2019 Royal] Rumble, they wanted to cut my beard down to make it the same size as Bryan [Danielson’s] so I look like a taller Daniel Bryan and I shot that down because I said, ‘We have to be different.’ So luckily at that point, I had no problems going to Vince and saying no… for certain things and explaining why I didn’t think it was a good idea, which to my benefit, I’m glad I did.
Erick Redbeard and Bryan Danielson would go on to become SmackDown Tag Team Champions later in the year.
Redbeard was released from WWE in April 2020 during the early part of the pandemic.
Erick recently appeared in All Elite Wrestling, making his official in-ring debut at Revolution on the Buy In with PAC and Penta El Zero Miedo against House of Black.
