An update on WWE being declared an “essential business”; A look at the current Money in the Bank pay-per-view lineup; and WWE 2K21 might not be happening; for WrestleTalk.com, I’m Liam with today’s audio news bulletin.
Florida governor Ron DeSantis has declared that WWE is an “essential business”, and therefore can continue broadcasting live TV shows from the Performance Center in Orlando.
Orange County Mayor Jerry Demings originally declared that it wasn’t essential, but the decision was changed after talking with the governor.
Initially the exemptions to Florida’s stay-at-home order included the likes of people in the businesses of healthcare, food, transportation, and a few others, but recently added was employees at a professional sports and media production with a national audience, providing the production location is closed to the public, which is a category WWE does fall into.
A spokesperson for DeSantis said to ESPN that the reason for this addition is because such services are critical to Florida’s economy.
Last night’s Raw saw some developments heading into the Money in the Bank pay-per-view scheduled for May 10.
Asuka defeated Ruby Riott to advance to the women’s MITB ladder match, as did Nia Jax with a win over Kairi Sane, and despite a botch from ring announcer Mike Rome, Shayna Baszler joined them after destroying Sarah Logan to the point she could no longer continue. Rome announced that Sarah Logan had won the match, but this was corrected by the commentators and it was Baszler who qualified.
Three men’s qualifiers were confirmed for next week’s show, as Rey Mysterio will face Murphy, Aleister Black takes on Austin Theory, and Apollo Crews goes up against MVP.
Also last night, the Viking Raiders picked up a win over the new team of Ricochet and Cedric Alexander, and Dave Meltzer reports that Ivar and Erik are scheduled to challenge the Street Profits for the Raw Tag Team Championship at Money in the Bank.
Drew McIntyre’s challenger for the event seems to have been revealed too, as following a win in the main event over Andrade, the WWE Champion was attacked by Seth Rollins who took a look at the title on the ground before delivering multiple Curb Stomps.
Rollins is heading into this on the back of a loss to Kevin Owens at WrestleMania, but WWE didn’t think ahead to have any Raw male heels win at ‘Mania, so it’s not as if there’s really a better option.
Former WWE video game writer Justin Leeper says that he’s heard on good authority that there will be no WWE 2K21 released later this year, but instead, there’ll be a different kind of WWE game.
Anyone who’s played or seen WWE 2K20 will know that it didn’t go very well, and received complaints from pretty much everybody for some dodgy graphics, glitches, and ultimately just not being very polished.
There is no concrete news on what the different kind of game will be, but it is widely expected to be a mobile app. Leeper pointed out that a 2K game trailer or at least news usually comes out at WrestleMania time, and the reason it didn’t, is because it’s not happening.
