Former IWGP Heavyweight Champion EVIL has officially been renamed ‘Naraku’ in WWE NXT, and is set to make his in-ring debut next week.

On last week’s episode of WWE NXT, EVIL made his debut for the brand, where he confronted NXT Champion Tony D’Angelo, sending him a warning message after delivering him a box the prior week.

EVIL was not named on commentary on the show, with it being reported by Fightful Select earlier today that the previously trademarked Nox Raijin name was to be used by EVIL.

However, there has now been a change of plans, as EVIL appeared in his debut promo on tonight’s WWE NXT show, where he sent a message to Tony D’Angelo.

During the segment, EVIL’s new name was revealed to be ‘Naraku’, with him making his in-ring debut next week on NXT.

This isn’t the first time WWE has trademarked a name for a debuting wrestler only to not use it, as Jacob Fatu has confirmed that a previously trademarked ‘Caesar Sikoa’ ring name was originally planned for him.

The Next WWE NXT Champion

After all the recent WWE main roster call-ups, NXT Champion Tony D’Angelo has an entirely new set of challengers coming for his title.

D’Angelo himself likely isn’t far away from a move to Raw or SmackDown, so he’ll probably have to pass the baton of the NXT Title onto a new star soon.

At the top of that list based on what we’ve seen so far is Naraku himself, who targeted D’Angelo and confronted him with a declaration of ‘war’ last week.

After that, D’Angelo was taken out by Tavion Heights, who has been around in WWE NXT for a few years now but has yet to be used at that top level.

It might be time for him to make that leap, but he could also chase Myles Borne’s North American Title after they had a brief confrontation backstage last week.

The outsider pick could be Will Kroos, who made a big splash in his debut appearance last week with a massive moonsault to D’Angelo as a completely unknown quantity.

One thing we do know is that Kroos has the backing of John Cena, so may be headed to the top of NXT soon.

Keanu Carver is someone who has stated his intentions to chase D’Angelo’s NXT Title as of late as well.
