An ex-WWE talent has made an AEW debut that you probably didn’t actually know about, but it’s an interesting story nonetheless.
On last night’s AEW Dark ‘Elevation’ – taped on March 8 – there was a match between ROH Women’s World Champion Athena, and Inder Mundi.
Mundi was making her AEW debut, but you might not know about her background.
Mundi actually wrestled as Sareena Sandhu at the WWE Superstar Spectacle show in the ThunderDome in January 2021, which was a celebration of the company’s Indian talents.
She teamed with Charlotte Flair to score a win over the team of Bayley and Natalya in a tag match.
She was actually a stand-in on that show for Kavita Devi, who was supposed to team with Flair but had to go back to India for family reasons at the time.
Of the 10 Indian wrestlers (or wrestlers of Indian descent) who were on that show, only half of them are still with WWE.
The five that aren’t are Giant Zanjeer, Jeet Rama, Sareena Sandhu, and the Bollywood Boyz, who have also had a couple of matches for AEW not too long ago.
The survivors are Guru Raaj, Shanky, Veer, Sanga, and Jinder Mahal.
@AEWEnhance on Twitter posted about Mundi/Sandhu, as you can see below:
Inder Mundi made her pro-debut in 2015. She trained at the Big Time Wrestling Academy.
Before AEW, she competed in WWE's Superstar Spectacle as Sareena Sandhu for India's Republic Day (1/26/21). She teamed w/ Charlotte Flair in a winning effort against Bayley & Natalya.#AEW pic.twitter.com/FsYxpx9Pmz
