For several weeks it has been rumoured that newly reinstated WWE hall of famer Hulk Hogan would be appearing at WWE’s latest Saudi Arabia show, Crown Jewel, on November 2.
However, our WrestleTalk source in Saudi Arabia is exclusively reporting that this may not be the case after all.
Referring to the recent tweet sent out by the Saudi sports minister which included a picture of Hogan, our source says that based on the minister’s tweets prior that it was “just a meme” rather than a hint at a Hogan appearance. He added: “Nobody is talking about the show in this country, so there’s no reason to tease Hogan”.
Translated, the original tweet read: “What is this world cup that nobody is talking about?”
World Cup mockery
Our source says there is a good reason for the somewhat unusual wording of the tweet. “It is widely believed within Saudi Arabia that the whole reason behind WWE doing a World Cup is to mock Qatar and the 2022 football World Cup.”
Relations between the two nations aren’t exactly cordial and our source tells us this is something that Saudi Arabia would do to get one over on their neighbours.
Saudi Arabia, Bahrian, Egypt and the United Arab Emirates all severed ties with Qatar in 2017 for what they described as Qatar’s “embrace of various terrorist and sectarian groups aimed at destabilising the region”.
Our source went on to say that although he can not rule out a Hogan appearance as “this is Vince McMahon, who would do anything crazy if the right price was on the table”, the likelihood of Hogan’s involvement at the event based on the evidence of the tweet alone is severely reduced for the reasons noted.
