Fastlane Spoilers Given Away By Local Advertising

Fastlane Spoilers Given Away By Local Advertising

Local advertisements that aired in Cleveland, Ohio during Raw, where Fastlane, WWE’s final pay-per-view before WrestleMania will take place in March, appears to have given away three major matches on the supercard.

The bouts advertised are:

WWE Championship
Daniel Bryan (c) vs. AJ Styles

WWE Intercontinental Title
Bobby Lashley (c) vs. Seth Rollins

Becky Lynch vs. Charlotte Flair

The possibility of Rollins vs. Lashley seemed likely following their Royal Rumble altercation and their recent Raw rivalry but it is difficult to explain why Rollins would be going after the Intercontinental belt the month before he challenges Brock Lesnar for the Universal Title at WrestleMania.

Is WWE planning to do a title versus title showdown between Rollins and Lesnar a’la Hogan vs. Warrior at WrestleMania VI? It seems unlikely. If not then Rollins would likely lose to Lashley, which is hardly an ideal way to set him up for a featured bout at ‘Mania.

If Styles vs. Bryan happens it will be the third pay-per-view meeting between the two, following their clashes at TLC and Royal Rumble, both of which were won by Bryan. WWE is not adverse to running a rivalry into the ground, as we saw last year during Styles’ feuds with Shinsuke Nakamura and Samoa Joe, so this seems entirely possible. Especially given how Bryan won the Rumble match. Maybe this time Bryan will retain via assistance from Randy Orton, who is rumoured to be facing off with Styles at the supercard.

The final match has potentially significant consequences. If Charlotte was to finally defeat the red hot Becky Lynch she would have a strong claim to being added to the hotly-anticipated Ronda Rousey vs. Becky Lynch showdown at WrestleMania. However, another defeat for Becky could spark fan unrest, as might adding Charlotte and making the bout a three-way as has been planned, given the response Lynch received on Raw.

Of course, the other possibility is that WWE was just advertising something for the local market that it has little intention of delivering on. After all, the promotion promised John Cena in the Royal Rumble and a title match between Brock Lesnar and Braun Strowman – both of which they never had any intention of delivering on – as a way to sell tickets. It would not be without precedent for that to be the case again.
