The finals of New Japan Pro Wrestling’s New Japan Cup 2022 tournament is officially set.
During Saturday’s event, Zack Sabre Jr and Tetsuya Naito won their respective semifinal matches to advance to the tournament final.
Sabre Jr scored a victory over Shingo Takagi via submission after forcing Takagi to pass out. The defeat marked Takagi’s first loss since losing the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship to Kazuchika Okada at Wrestle Kingdom 16.
Okada was bested in his semifinal bout by Naito, who won with a cradle pin.
Both finalists have previously won the New Japan Cup, with Naito victorious in 2016, and Sabre Jr taking home the trophy in 2018.
The final takes place during Sunday’s event at Osaka-Jo Hall.
