Finn Balor has been one of the most charismatic members of the WWE roster since debuting in 2014. One of the biggest components of that during his tenure has been the use of The Demon. However, Balor now believes that he lost control of his character.
Balor recently spoke with Stephanie Chase of Digital Spy where he discussed the origin of the Demon and using it in NXT. Here is the quote:
“I feel like The Demon was supposed to be a one-off in Tokyo Dome, Japan and it grew into this completely separate entity that for some time I had control over and then eventually it just kind of spun out of control.
I was trying to please too many people and not pleasing myself. I feel like I lost a grip on what the character was and what I was utilising it for.
I feel like the main element that The Demon had was the element of surprise and I feel like we lost that in a sense and it became more like a crutch for Finn.”
Balor debuted his demon character at Wrestle Kingdom 8 in New Japan Pro Wrestling. The character was then brought to NXT and appeared to be used as scare tactics to take opponents out of their game. When he was brought up to the main roster in 2016, the character became an actual supernatural demon.
Balor also mentioned in the interview that fans haven’t seen the last of the demon, but the character wouldn’t fit with what he has been doing for the last year in NXT.
