Finn Balor has become the new number one contender for the Universal Championship. He will face Brock Lesnar at the Royal Rumble in the match that was originally intended for Braun Strowman.
Balor won a Fatal Fourway match in the main event of Raw to secure his spot at the Royal Rumble. The match also featured John Cena, Baron Corbin, and Drew Mcintyre. Balor managed to win his way into the match by defeating Jinder Mahal earlier in the night.

Finn Balor was originally planned to face Lesnar for the Universal title at the Royal Rumble last year before management decided he wasn’t over enough. As the plans changed, Balor was replaced by Braun Strowman and Kane. Now, one year later, Balor has replaced Strowman. The parallels are undeniable and Balor appears to be in a much better place than he was in one year ago.
Finn Balor competed at NXT UK Takeover: Blackpool in a surprise match against Jordan Devlin. Devlin was originally scheduled to wrestle Travis Banks, however the match was called off after a pre-match brawl. Banks was left unable to compete after Devlin targeted his leg. Balor was announced as the replacement and beat Devlin with the Coup de Grace.
