Finn Balor has revealed what he knew about WWE’s plans for him as the Universal Champion following his win at SummerSlam 2016.
Following the re-introduction of the brand split (brand extension), Balor defeated Seth Rollins to become the inaugural Universal Champion in August 2016.
Balor was forced to relinquish the title one day after winning the gold, due to a shoulder injury he suffered during the SummerSlam bout.
Speaking on ‘Superstar Crossover‘, Balor revealed that he didn’t know any of WWE’s plans for him as champion. Noting that at the time, he was focused on his title win, Balor said:
“You’re the first person that’s ever asked me that question, and I have absolutely no idea what the plans were. I’m very much of the mindset of day by day in that I don’t really think too far in the future. I wanna handle business today and worry about tomorrow, tomorrow.
“That was very much the mindset I had back then too. I was very focused on winning the championship and not really worried about where I was gonna go, or what it was gonna unfold to, or what the story had been projected.”
Balor is reportedly set to receive a major push under the Triple H WWE regime. The former Universal Champion recently opened up about his mindset wrestling under Triple H, which you can read more about right here.
