The first NJPW World TV Champion crowned at Wrestle Kingdom 17.

This past fall, New Japan Pro Wrestling announced the creation of the NJPW World TV Championship that would be determined via a tournament that started in October.

Bouts for the tournament and championship matches will have a 15 minute time limit.

On today’s NJPW Wrestle Kingdom 17 show, Zack Sabre Jr. defeated Ren Narita to become the first NJPW World TV Champion.

This was a technical wrestling based bout that saw ZSJ work over Narita’s arm until catching him with a flash submission for the win.

Following the bout, TMDK’s Shane Haste and Mikey Nicholls came out to offer Zack Sabre Jr. a spot in their stable with a TMDK shirt, which he accepted.

Sabre Jr. was previously a member of the Suzuki-Gun faction, but Minoru Suzuki announced the disbandment of his group at the end of 2022.

We will have further updates on today’s NJPW Wrestle Kingdom 17 event when they become available.
