It has been announced via Twitter that for the first time ever “The Villain” Marty Scurll will go one on one with “The Rainmaker” Kazuchika Okada at the Bullet Club promoted show ALL IN.
This is the second official match announced for ALL IN as it was announced earlier today that matches will begin to be announced every week leading up to the show on September 1st. The only other match hinted confirmed is Cody challenging Nick Aldis for the NWA Championship at the event, which will become a double title match if Cody wins the Ring of Honor championship.
Former IWGP Heavyweight ChampionKazuchika Okada was announced for ALL IN back in April and many fans began to speculate as to who his opponent might be. Now with the announcement of his match with Marty Scurll, ALL IN promises to give fans a match that has never been seen before.
New Japan Pro Wrestling rarely deviates from their weight class-based format when it comes to singles matches, and as Okada is a heavyweight and Scurll is a junior heavyweight their paths have not been able to cross until now.
Okada most recently lost his IWGP Heavyweight Championship to Kenny Omega at Dominion in June. The loss capped off a two year title reign that many have called the greatest title reign of this generation while others have gone as far as to say it was the best title reign of all time.
Scurll is currently scheduled to team with Hangman Page to wrestle Hiroshi Tanahashi and KUSHIDA at the G1 Special in San Fransisco this Saturday. Scurll lost his IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championship to long-time rival Will Ospreay at Wrestle Kingdom 12 and failed to win the title back at Sakura Genesis in April and failed to win the Best of the Super Junior tournament in May.
Scurll is enjoying success in tag team matches as of late, most recently defeating Tanahashi, Jushin Thunder Liger, and Rey Mysterio at Dominion.
