
A former AEW World Champion is reportedly in a contract year, with their contract believed to be expiring in the Summer.
At AEW Revolution, AEW Women’s World Champion Toni Storm retained her title against Mariah May in what was dubbed the ‘Hollywood Ending’, capping off their rivalry that had begun with Mariah’s arrival in AEW in late 2023.
Following the match, Toni has continued to reign as champion, with her set to defend the title against Megan Bayne at Dynasty, while Mariah has not appeared on AEW TV since her defeat.
In an update on Mariah’s status from Fightful Select (subscription required), Fightful has learned that a number of staff, wrestlers and higher ups in AEW believe that Mariah is in a contract year.
Specifically, those that have spoke to Fightful believe her contract is set to expire in the Summer, though it was not known if there are any option years added to the deal.
Fightful was told that AEW is looking to retain Mariah, and that word of her contract status spread within the company following her defeat to Toni Storm at Revolution.
