There has been an update on former AEW champions potentially joining WWE soon following recent reports they signed with the company.
Former AEW World Tag Team Champions Penta El Zero Miedo and Rey Fenix of the Lucha Bros are seemingly headed to WWE soon, with their AEW contracts set to expire soon.
However, reports emerged this weeks that the pair had officially signed with WWE on multi-year deals, but there has been an update on their contract status.
Per Fightful Select (subscription required), while it is expected that WWE will be the ultimate landing spot for Penta and Fenix, a number of WWE sources told Fightful that they are not yet signed to the company, with one indicating that they believe Fenix is still under contract with AEW, and that the transition to WWE won’t be as smooth as expected.
AEW sources did not confirm Fenix’s contract status with the company, though both wrestlers remain on AEW’s official roster page.
Penta had told a number of people throughout the Summer that he was expecting to go to WWE, and had been in contact with the company, and he’d also told those that he spoke with that he and Fenix were a package deal, preferring to go directly to WWE’s main roster.
The Lucha Bros aren’t the only top tag team signing with WWE, as it was recently reported that the Motor City Machine Guns had signed, and were set to head to the NXT brand.
We will provide any updates on Penta and Fenix’s status as they become available.
