Former AEW star Joey Janela has revealed that he’s suffering from a painful condition and that his upcoming schedule is ‘uncertain’.
Janela signed a three-year deal with AEW in 2019 making his official debut at Double or Nothing in May of that year.
He would continue to work with the company, as well as being able to work independent promotions, until 2022 with his contract expiring on May 1.
In a recent post on Twitter, Janela revealed his medical condition and the impact it will have on his bookings, posting:
“Well, I’ve been in pain for quite a while, worst the past couple days along with insane vomiting.
“I braved through it to do something at the limp bizkit concert and today had to check into a hospital.
“Turns out I have gallstone pancreatitis, my August schedule is uncertain for the time being, and bills gonna be through the roof. I’ll be trying to get some merch out there, should be in here for a minute.”
The former AEW star would follow this up with a tweet saying that his Japan appearances were ‘looking uncertain’.
According to the Johns Hopkins Medicine website, the pancreas is described as:
“…a disease that causes inflammation and pain in your pancreas. The pancreas is a small organ that makes hormones such as insulin. This helps control blood sugar. It also makes enzymes that help digest and break down the foods you eat. This is part of the digestive process.
“Sometimes a gallstone gets stuck in the common bile duct. This can block your pancreatic duct and cause pancreatitis. This is known as gallstone pancreatitis.”
The website notes that the cause of gallstone pancreatitis is:
“Gallstones form in your gallbladder. In cases of gallstone pancreatitis, the stone leaves the gallbladder. It blocks the opening from the pancreas to the first part of the small intestine (duodenum). This causes a backup of fluid that can travel up both the bile duct and the pancreatic duct.
“Gallstone pancreatitis can be very painful and life-threatening if not treated. Gallstones are the leading cause of short-term (acute) pancreatitis.”
Asked how long it took to recover by Janela, a fan who suffered from the condition revealed that it was “two weeks (of) no exercise and two with only light exercise.”
WrestleTalk wishes Joey Janela well in his recovery.
