Former AEW star and current GCW star Joey Janela says he almost tricked WWE Hall of Famer Ricky Steamboat into turning heel.

Ricky Steamboat is widely regarded as one of the best babyfaces to ever step foot into a wrestling ring.

Steamboat is a rare breed in the business being a legend with over three decades of his career to never turn heel.

However, it seems that a former AEW star was almost able to get Steamboat to do the unthinkable.

On February 18, Joey Janela took to social media to retweet a Ricky Steamboat appreciation post and explain how he almost tricked the legend into turning heel by wearing a Bullet Club shirt. He wrote:

I almost tricked Ricky into turning heel when he was the special guest referee of a match Between Me and Tama Tonga. He would stop counting my pin and reveal a bullet club shirt. I told him they were a babyface stable until somehow he found out they weren’t.

“Joey Are the bullet club heels”

“I mean they are like popular”

“I’ve never went heel in my career and never will Joey”

Ricky Steamboat last appeared for AEW back at All Out 2023 where he was in the corner of Bryan Danielson in his win over Ricky Starks in a Strap Match.
