Former AEW star Penta El Zero Miedo, now known simply as Penta, made his WWE debut during tonight’s January 13 episode of Raw.
Last week, the announcement was made that Chad Gable would face a ‘mystery luchador’ during tonight’s show.
However, later in the show last week, a short video aired that directly featured the name Penta, confirming he was heading to WWE after leaving AEW a few months ago.
Earlier today, WWE released the first official Penta merchandise on its website, which served to make the ‘mystery’ opponent anything but a mystery, if it still was one.
As expected, Gable’s opponent was indeed Penta tonight, and it was Penta who scored the win after a competitive match with the Penta Driver.
In a post-match interview, Penta said, “You’ve been waiting for this moment, but the real truth is, I’ve been waiting for this moment”.
During the match, Michael Cole acknowledged Penta’s championship wins in TNA, AAA and Lucha Underground, and also noted that while many people believe Rey Mysterio is the best luchador of all time, many also believe Penta is a “close second”.
Initially, Penta’s brother and tag team partner Rey Fenix was expected to join him in the move from AEW to WWE, but Fenix has had injury time added onto his contract so can’t leave AEW until that time is up.
