A former champion in WWE who was released by the company earlier this year has teased challenging new AEW TNT Champion Darby Allin for the title.
The official AEW Twitter account asked how long Allin will be able to hold onto the title for after winning it from Cody Rhodes and Full Gear on Saturday, to which former NXT Cruiserweight Champion Lio Rush replied: “Depends”.
Rush also responded to a fan who expressed they don’t want to see more of Rush as he’s already working with a number of promotions, by tweeting:
They hate to see you winning. You’re going to despise me before this year is over because I’ve got more on the way…….A LOT more.
Darby Allin has become the third man to hold the TNT Championship, following the two reigns of Rhodes and Brodie Lee’s reign in between.
AEW hasn’t shied away from using independent talent in TNT Championship matches in the past, specifically during Cody’s open challenge. Ricky Starks and Eddie Kingston both impressed enough to get signed, and the likes of Warhorse challenged too.
