Former Champion Released By WWE

Former Champion Released By WWE

On last night’s episode of WWE Raw, R-Truth won back the 24/7 Championship from NFL star Rob Gronkowski, and it has now been announced that Gronkowski has been released from his WWE deal.

Gronk signed for WWE back in March 2020, and was the host of the empty arena WrestleMania 36 shows. He was expected to work at match at SummerSlam, but after signing for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, this match is no longer planned, reports WrestlingInc.

According to a WrestlingInc source, Gronkowski had a release clause in his contract, which he has now exercised. It is likely that he will make appearances for WWE in the future, but not as an in-ring performer any time soon.

While it is highly unlikely that he would do so, he will be unable to work for any other wrestling companies until his non-compete clause expires.

Gronk has spoken before about wanting “one crazy match” in WWE during a press conference last year.

“With wrestling, I don’t feel like I would be a full-time wrestler, but there is one thing I’m down for. And that’s to do one crazy match. Practice it for a little bit, go out there, like in a Royal Rumble, go out there, I got my friend in WWE [Rawley], practice it and do a full-on WWE match. I’m not saying when. Maybe five years. I got the rest of my life to do that. I’ve always dreamed about doing that, just one time, going in there and going full out. That may be a possibility, one time, down the road.”
