Former Champion Comments On WWE Wanting To Take Away Signature Attire WWE

Former ECW Heavyweight Champion Rob Van Dam has commented on WWE wanting to take away his signature airbrushed attire.

Throughout his career, Rob Van Dam has been recognised for his innovative in-ring ability, love of marijuana and his airbrushed ring gear.

The attire became one of the most identifiable elements of his entire act and has remained part of his image throughout multiple promotions, such as ECW, WWE and TNA Wrestling.

In a new interview on Insight with Chris Van Vliet, RVD commented on WWE wanting to take away his airbrushed attire in the past, He said:

“When I first got there, I did have airbrushed, and then Michael Hayes said, ‘The tie-dye reminds us of the 70s’, that’s exactly what he said.”

“He wanted me to wear something like Kurt Angle wears. And so he had the seamstresses make me an outfit that wasn’t airbrushed, it had like a dragon sewn on it or whatever.”

“They did that two or three times and what I ended up doing was wearing those outfits on the house shows that weren’t on TV so I would let them get beat up and worn out, and then the bright newly airbrushed outfits, I would wear those on TV.”

“There’s probably one or two TV matches where I had to figure out that that’s what I was gonna do after they first gave me those outfits, but I do have those and you see pictures of me in them, and that’s just one of those things that we just agreed upon where I was stubborn and didn’t go with the Kurt Angle kind of outfits.”

Van Dam last wrestled in the ring back on the April 20, 2024 edition of AEW Rampage.

Elsewhere in the interview with Insight, RVD also recalled his memorable match with John Cena at ECW One Night Stand 2006, which you can read at this link here.
