During a recent interview with Wrestling Inc, NWA Women’s Champion Thunder Rosa said that she thinks she’d be working for WWE right now if she didn’t wrestle with a mask while working for Lucha Underground.
While working for Lucha Underground, Rosa wrestled under the name “Kobra Moon” and worked with a mask on. Rosa believes this prevented her from getting noticed by WWE:
“You know, I said this, we signed the contract because we wanted an opportunity. A lot of us were hungry. A lot of us were new. We just wanted to be seen. We wanted that stage for us to, like, to get to the next level, which for me, didn’t pan out because I was wearing a mask. If I had been Thunder Rosa in Lucha Underground, I’d probably be in WWE by now.”
Since leaving Lucha Underground, Thunder Rosa went on to become NWA Women’s Champion, and even worked some matches with AEW this year, including an AEW Women’s Championship match at All Out with Hikaru Shida.
For those that don’t know, Thunder Rosa was actually set to have a WWE tryout last year, but it was called off because of Hurricane Dorian. Interestingly, the tryout was for a referee role not as a wrestler.
