Former IWGP Junior Heavyweight champion KUSHIDA announced over the weekend that he would not be renewing his NJPW contract when it expires at the end of January 2019.
It has been speculated for some time that WWE are interested in signing him, and it looks like they may well have got their man.
Discussing the issue on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer said he was certain that’s where KUSHIDA is going, probably to the developmental brand NXT.
Given KUSHIDA’s size, it isn’t clear whether he’ll be dumped in alongside the cruiserweights, but given how much WWE supposedly wanted him, you would hope he’s talked them into letting him be a bigger star.
He was joined in announcing his departure from NJPW by former IWGP Heavyweight Champion Kenny Omega, who has also been linked with WWE. However, we understand that it is now thought Omega will be heading to AEW to reunite with Cody and the Young Bucks.
