Former UFC Champion Cain Velasquez Debuts On SmackDown

Former UFC Champion Cain Velasquez has debuted on SmackDown, attacking new WWE Champion Brock Lesnar in the process.

Lesnar defeated Kofi Kingston in about 3 seconds, and was starting to celebrate when Rey Mysterio’s music hit. But he was not alone.

At first I thought Dominik had shaved his head, but I was very wrong.

Velasquez, who is still part of UFC, was someone both AEW and WWE had spoken to with the aim of signing him after he impressed on his AAA debut.

The reason his debut is so significant is that Velasquez defeated Brock Lesnar for the UFC Heavyweight Championship in a first round TKO in their 2010 title match at UFC 121.

Commentator Michael Cole played off this fact on commentary, saying Brock had never looked so scared.

FOX apparently wants to present a more sports based show on Friday nights, and having both Brock Lesnar and Cain Velasquez on the same show will certainly help with that.

The two will likely go on to face each other at one of WWE’s big 5 shows, with the most likely being WrestleMania 36 in 2020.
