Nowadays, transitioning from the world of MMA to the world of professional wrestling is all the rage. Everyone does it. You’ve got Ronda Rousey, Shayna Baszler, Matt Riddle and several others just lurking about like 205 Live’s Jack Gallagher to name a few.
It seems as though we’re about to get another as early as this year, however, as according to Dave Meltzer in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, former UFC Heavyweight Champion Cain Velasquez is also looking to make the jump.
“Obviously, UFC would have to okay this for contract reasons, but there is significant talk of Cain Velasquez doing some high-profile pro wrestling this year.”
Velasquez has already visited the WWE Performance Center for training sessions and sat down for an interview with MMA Fighting in February. During which, the former champ detailed that he wanted to see if he could make the jump to pro wrestling.
The results were a resounding “yes” but that apparently wouldn’t be enough for Cain who would want to go in at 100 percent, building his work from the ground up as opposed to making a big splash on day one… *cough* Ronda *cough*.
“I’m not looking to just do it half-assed and do some appearances. If I do it, I’m gonna do it 100 percent.”
Whether or not he would or even could have a match in 2019 is anyone’s guess but a future in pro wrestling does seem to be on the cards.
