Former World Champion Discusses Not Signing With WWE Or AEW AEW/WWE

Former NWA Worlds Champion Nick Aldis became a free agent at the start of 2023, with many rumours about where he could end up.

There was reported interest in him from WWE, but he ended up returning to IMPACT Wrestling back at the Rebellion pay-per-view.

Speaking with Tru Heel Heat Wrestling, Aldis discussed the decision to return to IMPACT rather than landing in WWE or AEW.

He said:

“Well I think the quality of the communication with IMPACT has been very, very good.

“I don’t want to get into the weeds too much about all this, but I will just say that the way that Scott D’Amore and I communicated prior to me coming into IMPACT was the most easy and refreshing professional exchange I’ve ever had.

“There were no agendas, no double speak, no hidden meanings, no telling me what I wanted to hear, or me telling them what they wanted to hear.

“They were very respectful of me, and they know how I see myself and I know how they see their brand and where I can fit in.

“And it was like this agreement of, like let’s time this to where it’s best for both people right. I can enhance your business and you can enhance my business.

“That’s what it’s supposed to be. That’s what I’ve proven I can do and that’s what I want to do anywhere.

“I want to make sure that I’m making the most positive impact as I can do.

“And look, there’s not a lot of things you can control in wrestling, but I think I’ve done enough to prove now that I can be a difference maker.

“And really it’s not necessarily about being in the main event or being a world champion or anything like that, but you want to feel like you get the chance to be a difference maker and you know man so far so good.”

WWE has yet to sign any main roster talents since Vince McMahon’s return to the company back in January, with many believing the company is currently in the middle of a ‘hiring freeze’ following the Endeavor sale.
