Former WWE Star AEW Contract Status Update Following Recent Title Match WWE/AEW

An update on the AEW contract status of a former WWE star following their recent championship match in the company.

Former WWE star Matt Cardona made his return to AEW television earlier this month, with him being announced as Chris Jericho’s challenger for the ROH World Championship at ROH Final Battle at the Hammerstein Ballroom.

Final Battle took place last night, which saw Jericho retain the championship against Cardona.

Cardona has made a number of appearances for AEW leading up to the show, which has led to some speculation about his contract status with AEW/ROH.

In an update from Fightful Select (Subscription required), Cardona is not currently under AEW contract despite his recent ROH World Championship clash at Final Battle.

When Fightful asked Cardona directly, he said that he was ‘signed to the Major Wrestling Figure Podcast’.

There had been some recent issues between AEW and GCW, with many believing that Cardona’s appearance may have been a way to mend fences between the two companies, but Cardona is also not under contract to GCW, as the company does not typically do contracts aside from a deal with Nick Gage.

Cardona had to be helped to the back with an ankle injury following his match with Jericho, and was on crutches after the show, but Cardona is hopeful that he will be okay.

It was recently reported that Cardona had been offered a contract by AEW.
