Former WWE Champion ‘Owes Whole Career’ To Eddie Guerrero WWE

A former WWE Champion says he “owes his whole career” to Eddie Guerrero following their rivalry back in 2004.

After spending most of his WWE career to that point in the tag team division, the Spring of 2004 saw Bradshaw repackaged into John Bradshaw Layfield – a character that would see the veteran become a main event star and WWE Champion within months of its inception.

JBL’s WWE Championship win came at Great American Bash in June 2004, when he defeated Eddie Guerrero in a Bullrope Match – the pair’s second match for the title following a brutal encounter at Judgment Day 2004 the month prior.

Speaking on The Undertaker & Michelle McCool’s Six Feet Under podcast, JBL named Guerrero as his dream opponent if he could face anyone throughout WWE history:

Give me one more match with Viva La Raza. Just one more match with Eddie. Get Ron (Simmons) in my corner. Ron in my corner against Eddie. One more time that would be awesome.

JBL was then asked by Undertaker if he would want the match to be No DQ or a traditional singles bout, to which he opted for the latter:

“Oh my god, no DQ absolutely not because I want Eddie to be as creative as possible. No DQ, no rules, no nothing. Ron can get involved, Ron can do commentary on it, whatever Ron wants to do.”

After being asked who would win the match by Michelle McCool, JBL picked Eddie and credited his fellow WWE Hall of Famer with laughing his career in the company:

“Viva La Raza. Eddie Guerrero. Eddie Guerrero not only made me, gave me the angle that not only made me but took the title off himself. So my whole career I owe to Eddie. I’m putting that man over.”
