Former WWE Star Addresses Whether CM Punk Is A ‘Hypocrite’ For Going To Saudi Arabia WWE

A former WWE star has responded to claims of CM Punk being a ‘hypocrite’ for recentlyworking at Night of Champions in Saudi Arabia.

CM Punk had  been critical of Saudi Arabia in previous years while he wasn’t signed to WWE, but competed at Night of Champions, losing to John Cena in the main event of the June 28 show.

In 2020, Punk had tweeted to Miz:

“Go suck a blood money covered d**k in Saudi Arabia you f**king dork”

Ahead of the match against Cena, Punk apologized on the Night of Champions kickoff event for the tweet, saying it had “nothing to do with Saudi Arabia”, and was just an insult aimed at The Miz.

During the latest edition of The Extreme Life of Matt Hardy, Hardy addressed CM Punk’s decision to go Saudi Arabia, responding to people who were calling him a hypocrite for doing so. Hardy said:

“Punk has a history of being very vocal about things he has been against, or things he is not for, I guess. There were so many people that were so disappointed he ended up going to Saudi Arabia.

“I think it’s one of those things where, if he hadn’t have come to AEW, got himself established over there, he probably doesn’t end up heading back to WWE after he built himself up there.

“I truly believe that at WWE he is grateful for this opportunity, and he knows it isn’t AEW, he can’t do whatever the f**k he wants to do. He has to play by the rules and be a good employee, and toe the company line.

“And I think he was okay with that, and he was accepting of that – ‘Okay, they want me to do this match with John Cena in Saudi Arabia, and do SmackDown in Saudi Arabia, fine, I’ll do it.’

“I think it took balls for him to say that apology. I would imagine WWE had a bit of a hand in it, it probably wasn’t just Punk freestyling out there.

“But when it was all was said and done, he did what he was asked to do, or whatever he thought was gonna make things right.”

CM Punk would be unsuccessful in his match against Undisputed WWE Champion John Cena at Night of Champions.

The match saw Seth Rollins, Bronson Reed and Bron Breakker interfere, with Rollins’ apparent attempt to cash in Money in the Bank thwarted when Cena shoulder-tackled referee Charles Robinson.

Since his victory, John Cena has gone on to reveal that his last match in WWE is set to take place in mid-December this year.
