A good wrestling commentator is a hard thing to come by, especially in WWE where it is impossible to have a personality at the desk with constant instructions being shouted into your ear by Vince McMahon backstage.
So when Mauro Ranallo came along, his exuberance, while not enjoyed by everyone, was a breath of fresh air, especially during his time as the lead play-by-play commentator in NXT.
Ranallo left WWE in August 2020, and hasn’t commentated on wrestling since. However, it has just been announced that he will making his wrestling commentary return for a huge match.
IMPACT Wrestling has announced that Ranallo will be making a one-off appearance at the upcoming Rebellion show, where he will commentate on the main event between AEW Champion Kenny Omega and IMPACT Champion Rich Swann, a match Omega is widely expected to win, making him a double world champion.
According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Ranallo has signed a contract to commentate on only this match.
“Mauro Ranallo has signed to do only the main event between Kenny Omega vs. Rich Swann title vs. title on the 4/25 PPV show. The idea is to make it special by having Ranallo only call the main event. Anthem made a deal with Frank Shamrock and Ranallo signed on 4/14 to do the mach, voice over two video packages to build the match and host a documentary “This is Rebellion” that will be out next week.”
We’ll have to see whether Ranallo gets a taste for wrestling again, or whether this really is a one and done situation.
