The WWE’s Attitude Era may be much loved by wrestling fans, but there are many moments that would raise more than an eyebrow today.
With WWE trying to push the envelope with what was acceptable to the viewing audience, the Divas of the Attitude Era’s early years weren’t respected in the same way that WWE’s women are today.
At Fully Loaded in 1998, Sable and Jacqueline competed in a Bikini contest that Sable would go on to win.
However, she would be disqualified when it was discovered that her bikini was painted on handprints covering her breasts.
This wasn’t an idea that WWE was going to abandon that easily, though, as Torrie Wilson explained whilst speaking on Generation Iron Fitness & Bodybuilding Network:
“They wanted me, like what Sable did, paint my boobs and walk out there naked, and I said no.”
Wilson had joined WWE in 2001, having come from the defunct WCW, but wasn’t going to do absolutely anything for her new employer, saying:
“There are certain things that I turned down that I could’ve gotten ahead with. But it just didn’t feel right.”
Torrie Wilson was released by WWE in 2008 and inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2019.
She has made a small number of appearance in WWE since her release, including the Women’s Royal Rumble in 2018.
