Several WWE Superstars have bunched up onto the injury bench over the past few days with Fandango and possibly Bobby Roode joining the ever-growing ranks. With so many of the current roster out of action, some former stars may be needed to fill out the card.
A certain ‘One of a Kind’ talent got the internet buzzing recently on Twitter when a similar question was brought to him. Rob Van Dam, the only man to simultaneously hold the WWE and ECW Championships, was asked if he would consider an “odd match” on NXT.
That sounds odd. https://t.co/QmHLEABENs

The former Money in the Bank winner kindly sidestepped the question. He wasn’t done toying with our emotions yet, however, as another account attempted to fill in the blanks and ruin the fun.

RVD responded in the most intelligent way any wrestler could to any rumors spouted into the ether that is the internet. He simply sat back and let all of us know that it could happen.

Obviously, this is in no way a “RETURN CONFIRMED!” sort of post but it does open a door that many thought to be closed. If the ‘One of a Kind’ was to return, it would be interesting to see what sort of role he would take.
Would he be up for “doing the job” over and over for developing mid-card talent? Or would he rather throw down with the likes of AJ Styles, Shinsuke Nakamura, Finn Bálor or even Daniel Bryan? Hell, would he fancy answering the original question and show up at NXT? Imagine the rub someone like Ricochet would get if he had the chance to take him on. The ‘One and Only’ vs. the ‘One of a Kind’. It writes itself. Not to mention how good that match would be.
Van Dam’s last WWE bout was in a losing effort to Seth Rollins on the August 29, 2014 episode of SmackDown. His last appearance, however, was at the 2014 Slammy Awards where he presented the Extreme Moment of the Year Award. After four years away, is it time to hear “RVD” chants ring through arenas once again?
