Former WWE Name Pitched For On-Screen AEW Role WWE/AEW

A former WWE name currently working for AEW backstage has reportedly been pitched to reprise their famous role on-screen.

WWE has had a number of ring announcers over the years, with one of the most popular being Tony Chimel, who served as SmackDown’s ring announcer for the Ruthless Aggression era into the early 2010s.

Chimel became infamous towards the end of his run with the company for his introduction of Edge, where he would voice crack when announcing ‘The Rated R Superstar’, with Chimel even being brought out occasionally when Edge would make cameo appearances after his retirement in 2011.

In recent years however, Chimel has worked backstage for All Elite Wrestling in a variety of roles, and with him affiliated with AEW, many have wondered if he may return on-screen to introduce Adam Copeland again in the company.

Per Fightful Select (subscription required), a ‘couple of people’ in the company have pitched for Chimel to do the entrance announcement for Cope in AEW, but they hadn’t heard whether it was happening.

Justin Roberts serves as AEW’s primary ring announcer for Dynamite, while Arkady Aura serves as the announcer for Collision.

Another former WWE ring announcer recently announced for AEW, which you can see here.
